Elephanta caves are such caves that were constructed by cutting the hill in the medieval period of India. The name elephant is used for these caves because these are very long like a trunk of an elephant. These caves are situated at the Island very near Mumbai city, at just a distance of 11 km. There are statutes also in these caves of the same period.
